Cardita Limited Delivery Methodology: Project Overview: The
project scope included the excavation of a 12 acre marina basin to
a general depth of 10 feet below mean sea level. In order to form
the basin Johnston international excavated a total of 250,000 cubic
yards of lime stone rock and installed 2200 linear feet of pre-cast
concrete dock wall and bulkhead. The 600 linear foot marine approach
channel was cut using a cutter suction barge. Challenges: The
project required the excavation of 250,000 cubic yards of limestone
under water and a 600 linear foot dredge into the sea using a cutter
suction barge. All works within the marine aproach channel were
controlled with turbidity curtains and stringently monitored to ensure
turbidity was maintained within the designated guidelines. Contract Value:
US $2.6m. Construction Schedule: Mobilization date, 28 March 2002. Contract Period 10 Months. The contract was completed on schedule. Estimate Methodology:
Competitive tender. Package Strategy: The
main excavation works were subcontracted to a specialist trade
contractor from the US with whom Johnston have a ten year relationship.
